Ultrasound Scanning – Painful Bursitis

Welcome back to Feet First Podiatry’s blog! Today, we’re sharing an ultrasound scan of a patient’s feet that tells an intriguing story.

On the left foot, the 5th metatarsal appears normal. However, on the right foot, there’s a clear indication of bursitis at the base of the 5th metatarsal. What does this mean?

Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa, a small, fluid-filled sac that cushions areas where tendons and muscles glide over bones. When a bursa becomes inflamed, it can cause significant discomfort, make movements like walking difficult, and potentially affect a person’s overall quality of life.

The patient has been experiencing tenderness, swelling, and pain, especially when the foot is in use.

Our specialist podiatrist has prescribed custom made orthotics to  help alleviate the pressure on the inflamed bursa, reducing pain and promoting healing.

These custom devices are not just about immediate relief, though. They’re also about long-term health. By correcting the biomechanics of the foot, they can help prevent the recurrence of bursitis and other related issues.

Our goal at Feet First Podiatry is to help you step forward with confidence and comfort! Stay tuned for more updates on foot health.
