Understanding Sever’s Disease in Children.

It might be more than just the usual aches and pains of an active childhood. Today, we’re shining a light on a common yet often misunderstood condition among youngsters: Sever’s Disease.

Sever’s Disease, scientifically known as Calcaneal Apophysitis, is not actually a disease, but an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel. It primarily affects active children between the ages of 8 and 14, aligning with the periods of their most intense growth spurts.

So, what exactly is this condition? As kids hit their growth spurts, the heel bone can develop faster than the surrounding muscles and tendons, leading to tension and stress at the growth plate. Given that this area is still developing, it’s more susceptible to inflammation, which is what we refer to as Sever’s Disease.
