Onychogryphosis (also known as Ram’s Horn Nails) is a disorder of the nail plate that is clinically characterised by an opaque, yellow-brown thickening of the nail plate and increased curvature.
Causes include but are not limited to slow nail plate growth, foot trauma, fungal infection, and psoriasis.
The condition is most common in older adults and mostly affects the big toe.
Treatment involves regular trimming with podiatry nippers and thinning with an electric nail drill.
If conservative treatment fails, surgical removal may be considered.
