Medical pedicure

A Medical Pedicure is a specialised procedure performed by a podiatrist. Having a medical pedicure is a great way to pamper yourself while also looking after your foot health!

What does a Medi-Pedi involve?

Initially, your podiatrist will ask you about any medical conditions you may have and any medication you are taking – this will allow your podiatrist to provide safe appropriate care.

Following your medical history assessment, the podiatrist will proceed to check the vascular status of the feet, nerve function, and skin integrity, while observing for any signs or symptoms of bacterial, fungal, or viral infections.

Your skin is cleansed with Clinisept – a powerful bactericide that is kind to your skin.

A thorough examination is conducted, observing for foot conditions such as fungal infections, verruca, callus, or corns.

Nail care is next. This consists of trimming nails correctly if you suffer from any nail conditions such as onychauxis (thickening of the nail plate), onychogryphosis (thickening with increased curvature) onychomycosis (fungal infection).

Once your nails are trimmed, thinned, and shaped your podiatrist will clean around the nail sulcus, eliminating any build-up of onychophosis (dead skin cells around the nail bed).

If you have any callus or corns (thickened yellow hard skin) your podiatrist will remove them with surgical debridement (this is pain-free).

On the other hand, if you have dry cracked skin your podiatrist will debride the dead skin from the edges of the fissures and apply suitable cream to promote healing.

Finally, your podiatrist will assess your skin type and advise whether you would benefit from moisturiser, emollients, urea-based creams, powders, or anti-fungal solutions.

You will also be given advice on how to care for your feet and manage any conditions you may have.
